Specialist Marcus A. Collier, a Melbourne, Florida resident and former student of Eau Gallie High School is currently
a member of the 101st Airborne Division, 1/506 Infantry, and was recently awarded the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple
Heart Medal for his actions and injuries resulting from a Taliban attack on his patrol in Wardak Province, Afghanistan on
October 16, 2008. Specialist Collier was manning a grenade launcher on an armored vehicle when his patrol came under attack,
and fired 387 rounds into the advancing enemy forces after being hit by shrapnel. Opposing forces were eliminated and the
patrol received no further damage. Only one week later, he was part of a team that secured the crash site of a downed Blackhawk
helicopter south of Bagram Air Base, where all crew members were rescued alive. Specialist Collier is currently stationed
at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he continues to train and take classes to further his rank. Unit:
